Welcome to Koversta old heritage village!

Koversta is an old farm village with houses from 18th century or earlier. The uniqeness of this village is that it gives us a picture of how a Swedish farming community looked before the big land reform was implemented in the middle of the eighteen hundreds.

The farmers in Koversta lost at the end of 18th century the right of ownership of their farms. The State "gave" then the farms to Gysinge Ironworks Estate, as compensation for delivering war material to the Swedish army, which at that time was involved in endless wars.

The ironworks estate was not included in the landreform and Koversta was therefore untouched, whilst in other areas the new land reform split up the old village structure, as the buildings were moved to the newly allocated farmland.

Today you can wander around in the village and "breath in" the old history connected with the old Swedish farming community.

During the summer you can buy light refreshments from the kitchen in one of the houses. Open June 21 - August 3  between 13-18.
